Think Pharmacy First

pill_collectionThis scheme is available to adults who are entitled to free prescriptions on the grounds of low income and to their children. People over 60 are also entitled to use the scheme.

If you have a health condition you can discuss this with a participating pharmacist without having to make an appointment. For example, if you have a headache you may be given paracetamol by your pharmacist free of charge under this scheme.

For more information, please contact your local pharmacy. Most pharmacies in Northumberland, North Tyneside and Newcastle are taking part in the scheme.

We are aware that some patients may struggle with paying prescription charges and would encourage those people to seek information about pre-payment certificates which are available for either 3 months or annually and which become cost-effective when ordering 2 or more medications per month. The pre-payment certificate would cover any acute presciptions, such as those for antibiotics, as well as regular medication. The practice has a small supply of leafletsfrom the Department of Health, HC11 Help with Health Costs (https://www.nhsba.nhs.uk).
